Increasing the qualification of regional development specialists in the focus of the REGIO.DIGI.HUB project

On 20.07.2023 Ruse Chamber of Commerce and Industry organized multiplier event and meeting discussion on “What is Upskilling” and why it is important for employees nowadays.  Which skills are needed to upskill employees in the regional development sector”.  The event was part of the activities in frame of the REGIO.DIGI.HUB project focused on upgrading the capacity of the vocational education and training system for regional development at European level. It was attended by representatives of Ruse Municipality, Ruse University, Labour Office, Bulgarian-Romanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, training centres and Ruse NGOs active in the field of regional development.

During the meeting, besides the project, the main results implemented so far were presented. The focus was on introducing the audience to the innovative training methodology and the validation of 15 core competencies needed for the work of regional development specialists. These were presented and discussed with the attendees. The methodology the participants were introduced to is an essential part of the development of the overall training course, which is to be integrated into a Moodle-based platform and will be available in 6 languages, including Bulgarian. The platform is expected to be operational by the end of the project and information about its launch will be widely disseminated so that it can be used as a resource by both vocational training centres and individual professionals working in the field of regional development.

The event ended with a discussion in which stakeholders shared the challenges, problems and needs they face in their daily work.  They also discussed the need to continuously upgrade their skills and competences in the field of digital technologies, the new realities facing the regions related to climate change and the need for adaptation in the workplace. Various good practices in the field of regional development in other European countries were also presented.
